EAT THE STATE! is a shamelessly biased political journal. We want an end to poverty, exploitation, imperialism, militarism, racism, sexism, heterosexism, environmental destruction, television, and large ugly buildings, and we want it now. We are not affiliated with any political group or party. We publish EAT THE STATE! as a not-for-profit way of sharing information, resources, opinions, and hopefully inspiring ACTION in our community. EAT THE STATE! is published and distributed free on alternate Thursdays online and in print in Seattle and the Puget Sound region. We welcome articles, letters, comments, tips, and feedback.

Investigative reporters and citizen journalists alike need access to public records, but bureaucratic hurdles make it hard to get such information. Journalists that hold power accountable depend the ability to scrutinize reports, audits, emails and meetings of government officials. Our aim is to create social and technological ways to keep this information free. Using BitTorrent and other technologies, we can reduce the double-work involved in filing Freedom of Information Act requests by more efficiently distributing this information so that public interest information can be kept in the public domain.

Probing the Man behind the Mahatma: analyzing the life and works of Mohandas Gandhi

A UNC course exploring the life, works and acts of Mohandas Gandhi. We attempt to evaluate Gandhi on his own terms; we try to tell his story by looking at his works and acts. By doing so, we try to gain an understanding of what motivated him to act, what constituted(/and constitutes) Gandhian philosophy, and whether we can emulate his means of initiating political change through "satyagraha" - truth struggle - and "ahimsa" - non violence - today. We engage in a dialogue with Gandhi to understand our own lives, times and crises.
